Google has updated its advertising tool, Google Keyword Planner.
You can now see exactly how many people search for a specific keyword—not only overall, but within a particular city or region, as well as which device they use, such as a desktop computer or mobile phone.
Previously
Google Keyword Planner might have shown that, for example, 1,000 people search for the keyword “buy a bicycle” each month.
Now
The tool can provide much more detailed information:
- Of those 1,000 searches, 700 may come from Tbilisi and 150 from Batumi.
- Most users in Tbilisi may search on mobile devices, while users in Batumi may search primarily on desktop computers.
Simply put, this helps you spend your advertising budget more strategically and show your ads only to the audiences that are most relevant to your business.

Why Is This Important?
Simply put, this update helps you avoid wasting money on locations, audiences, and devices that are unlikely to deliver results.
You can identify in advance which cities or even neighborhoods are worth targeting with your ads—and which ones are not.
For example, if you own a flower shop in Tbilisi, you can determine whether people search for your products more frequently in Vake or Gldani. You can also see whether they search on mobile devices or desktop computers, helping you create more suitable ad formats and campaign experiences.
As a result, your ads can reach the areas with the highest concentration of potential customers, allowing every lari you spend to generate better results.
Key Google Keyword Planner Features
- Device-based breakdown: Forecasts include platform-level data for mobile, desktop, and tablet devices.
- Location filters: Users can apply filters by location type, including region, city, and designated market area (DMA), allowing forecasts to be aligned with campaign objectives.
- Visual overview: Visual charts, including pie charts, show how users are distributed across regions. For example, one report may indicate that 77.4% of searches come from Amsterdam.
- Grouped keyword ideas: This feature remains available within the tool.
Final Thoughts
This Google Keyword Planner update significantly changes how advertisers approach geographically targeted campaigns. It brings greater clarity to localized advertising strategies and enables businesses to make more precise, data-driven decisions.
